Below are some options for you to get out and move your body and mind on April 17th or you can choose your own activity!
Yoga with Turi
We are so lucky to have Turi Heatherington provide us with some pre-recorded sessions on sleep! Turi teaches yoga and meditation at MSU and also shares her experience and passion for these ancient teachings combined with modern-day science with the Concussion Resource Center, LoveYourBrain Foundation, Mind Oasis, Bozeman Public Library, VETS Court, and Warriors & Quiet Waters
iRest® Yoga Nidra
Sleep is critical to our overall wellbeing. It is housekeeping, maintenance and repair time for our body and mind. Healthy sleep helps our body remain healthy and stave off disease. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly. We’ve probably all experienced slow or inappropriate responses to situations due to lack of sleep. Whereas, when well rested we simply feel better in body and mind and more our authentic, creative selves with a greater sense of calmness, clarity and joy. For those struggling with insomnia and other sleep disorders, getting more sleep is challenging. Here’s where the practice of iRest® Yoga Nidra comes in.
iRest® Yoga Nidra combines the ancient teachings of yoga and meditation with contemporary psychology and neuroscience to bring a sense of balance and ease to body and mind. The practice helps you ease into deep states of relaxation that support falling asleep and obtaining restful sleep. Through the process of iRest Yoga Nidra the senses and thinking mind are calmed, and you experience the part of you that is unchanging, ever present and always at peace.
Curious? Give this recording a try. While not a substitute for actual sleep, it is said that one hour of yoga nidra practice is equivalent to four hours of sleep: https://youtu.be/zMJzwbW8JOk

Saturday April 17th, we will be offering a half-day silent KORU mindfulness retreat. The retreat will occur via WebEx from 1 – 5 pm.
The retreat is an opportunity to unplug for an afternoon and feel the benefits of practicing mindfulness in silence for an extended period of time. We will practice a combination of meditation skills, including breath awareness, walking meditation, eating meditation and gentle yoga. Most find the experience of silence restorative and restful. No experience in mindfulness is necessary for the retreat and the retreat, as all KORU courses, is free.
To register, use this link: https://student.korumindfulness.org/course-detail.html?course_id=4851
Note if you have or are currently taking a KORU course at MSU: Some students have had issues with registering for a new course. The registration process sometimes does not complete. No error notice is given, but a confirmation isn’t given either. If this happens, please let me know and I will help you get registered!
Feel free to reach out to this Danielle Nicholas with any questions or if you need help with registration. Hope to see you at the retreat!

From Randi: While I am certainly no veteran, having faced intense mental health issues in the past, I know how crucial timing and access to care are. That's why I am partaking in the 17 to ZERO fundraiser. My contribution? A virtual yin yoga class, open to all, including mindfulness, pranayama, and long-holding postures, all centered around finding your voice.

Veteran Suicide Prevention Online Training
Statistically, we lose approximately 17 veterans to suicide each day in the US. The good news: that number has reduced from 22. The 17 to Zero project hopes to continue decreasing rates of veteran suicide by informing and empowering those in the community to reduce stigma, recognize warning signs of suicide, and help vets access mental health services.
Join MSU Counseling and Psychological Services for an online Zoom presentation on ways to recognize signs and symptoms of suicide and learn key factors in suicide prevention.
